Who & Why?

My name is Tori, and I am currently in my final year of the Medical Sciences BSc at the University of Exeter. Prior to and alongside this, I am a keen musician; so, when the opportunity arose to choose my final year project, I knew I had to make it musical! With the current policy climate placing musical education at risk, I believe I have the oppurtunity, by combining my scientific knowledge with my musical passion, to highlight the importance of integrating music into early education on brain development and degeneration. I believe this information, if made more widely known, could inform positive change within the early education sector.

What have I done?

  1. Reviewed and collated existing research on the effects of musical training on the brain, using platforms such as PubMed (key studies are included throughout this website)
  2. Interviewed two experienced music educators and surveyed a further 25, to figure out the best way to communicate this research
  3.  I created this website. I also plan to promote this further on social media.

How you can help

I would greatly value your time and experience as music education professionals to help further its development. I have created a Google form, available here (and on the right of the screen throughout the website), to collect any feedback you may have. Thank you!
